During the coronavirus epidemic, in addition to the restrictions and due to people’s sense of responsibility and prudence many people are looking for alternatives for recreation and vacationing during which they can maintain the appropriate social distance. Of course, this is difficult to implement with traditional travel alternatives, which is why caravans and motorhomes have become more and more common. What are the benefits? A caravan or a motorhome? What is the difference?
The caravan can be thought of as a kind of an outfitted trailer that needs to be towed by a car equipped with a towbar. In contrast, the motorhome rolls on its own wheels like a minibus and is equipped with all bells and whistles. Both have their pros and cons.

Camping is also more convenient with it, as all you have to do is park it at the campsite, unhook it and you can move freely with your vehicle. But to tow it, you will need a more powerful vehicle equipped with a towbar.
If you are planning a round trip and you would like to stay in a new campsite every 1 or 2 days, it is easier to do it in a motorhome. Alternatively, you can spend the night in a designated parking space, while this is more difficult to implement with a caravan. In contrast, motorhomes cost much more and are very expensive to maintain.
Tourism and social distancing by caravan and motorhome
How to reduce physical contact? Clearly so that getting from A to B is not done on crowded planes, buses or trains but in a car equipped with a caravan or in a motorhome. This minimizes the intensity of personal physical contact during which the chances of infection are much lower. Respectively, you can travel at your own pace, you will not be tied to anyone and you can move calmly and comfortably.
The question of accommodation and meals
Of course, during the pandemic social distancing rules must be followed everywhere. Furthermore, every accommodation pays special attention to proper disinfection. However, many consider it much safer to stay, sleep and eat in a caravan or a motorhome.
Not to mention how much more comfortable it is to go on a big family vacation in a caravan or a motorhome. We can comfortably store all the necessary clothes, items, equipment, toys and food, so it is much easier than having to carry everything up into a hotel room.
It is true that when travelling by caravan we have huge luggage space, but we must make sure not to exceed the maximum permissible total weight in this case as well. In general, the unladen weight of caravans approaches their total weight. This means that the weight of the vehicle constantly puts a load on the axle whether we travel with it or not. Therefore, it is advisable to at least partially relieve the load (approx. 50-70%) during both winter storage and when camping. Manufactured vehicles are equipped with the necessary support legs.
